The Day Before Medifast

Do not be deceived by my desperate attempt to hide love handles with the shirt over the shirt maneuver. Clever, but not very effective It's really just a psychological ploy to convince myself the fat is hidden when in reality, the love handles are clearly there, along with an ample supply of "hanging over the bra" back fat and a pregnancy tummy to rival the one I had when I really was pregnant. Tomorrow I'll post the official "Before" pictures. And if that isn't motivation enough to stick with this, I don't know what is.

So, this is it. No more procrastinating my journey from plump and pudgy to lean and lithe.

The box of food has arrived. If you can call it that. This stuff doesn't look like food by my definition. Maybe if I were an astronaut... Instead of combination burritos from Taco Bueno, I've got freeze-dried chili and instead of a chocolate dipped almond ice cream bar from Costco, I've got freeze-dried peanut butter soft serve. OMG - what have I gotten myself into?!!

Enough whining already. I'm committed to this. Right? Yeah, yeah, I am. Whatever. It wasn't cheap and as my 11 year old son likes to point out, I've already dropped out of Weight Watchers 3 times (well, really it's been several more times than that, but I'm certainly not going to arm him with THAT information). I love that kid. When I don't feel like strangling him.

I could have started the program today, but instead, I decided to treat myself to one last binge-filled day so could partake of a cultural potluck lunch with my graduate social work class. Oh baklava, how I love you! "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow I begin Medifast!".

I'm excited.  Can't you tell?

  1. You go Aimee!

As I said Ronda and I have gone through what you're about to start with Medifast. 40 lbs in 20 weeks for me and 15 lbs in a few short weeks for Ronda.

The first few days/first week will be the worst but then it gets better. Drink your water! The weekends will be the hardest, especially alcohol consumption. I did drink some but really tried to exercise it off the next morning (too many carbs which slow/kill fat burning).

I averaged closer to 1500 cals/day but I was exercising 5-6 days per week and needed the extra cals. It did slow down my weekly loss. Ronda stuck much more closely to the 1000 cals/day. She didn't drink a drop her first month (Jan '11) and lost 8-10 lbs.

No it isn't gourmet food and maybe it is a stretch to call it food but most of it really doesn't taste too bad. And it's nutritionally balanced plus being high fiber.

We eat lots of bars (our favorites are s'mores, chocolate mint and peanut butter) and shakes (swiss mocha and banana cream are our favorites).

Cappucino is good hot or cold. Ronda drinks a hot chocolate about every night before bed. And the soft serve ice cream is pretty good -- make sure you add enough ice.

I will warn you the chili sucks. Best soups are beef veggie and Maryland Crab. Oatmeals are fine. The eggs are OK. Pancakes are good but not sure they're worth the cooking effort.

I know you have a TSFL coach but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact either one of us about it!

  2. Thank you Brian!! I will probably want to find some Medifast buddies to exchange food with at some point, after I figure out what I like and what I don't so I'll check with you and Ronda first.
